The importance of humbleness

In the bible, the word humble is mentioned so many times that it could also link to the words “meekness” or “humility”. But the word humble…what’s that? Is it just something that can be taught to all of us or is it simply about humility and the way we see life? Here I am to discuss the value and importance of humbleness.

Often it can be misinterpreted as a weakness but it is the total opposite.”When I am weak I am strong”, surely that is a message of encouragement for all of us that defines something bigger than ourselves but makes us not lack because we have hope. No matter whether we are at the bottom of the valley or how far we have gone in life, there will always be a time to keep ourselves grounded in humility and not put too much focus on ourselves but on God, Jesus and the spirit of God- He is with us , He was human and He is the great creator of the world. (Proverbs 11:2, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Genesis  1-2:4, John 3:16)

Thats the mystery about the grace of God, it can cover us with these things beyond us but knowing that there is strength in weakness is a great example; And there is hope for the sake of what Jesus Christ did for us. (John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

There are countless times where we put the focus on ourselves and then it reflects how we see others and the people around us. But it also gets to the point of becoming the word pride. Its not a completely bad word but in this context and most commonly stated in the bible its a word of a self-seeking attitude, an attitude of ignorance/ arrogance/ rudeness.

We all have strengths and weaknesses; We all rise and fall but it is always good to keeping yourself humble in every circumstance because God honours that because it links to humility. It is important to humble ourselves in times of troubles, because then we have room to grow and God lifts us up. (James 4:10)

At the end of the day, humility is key. Yeah its not easy under some circumstances and takes letting go of expectations to share it unconditionally through Gods love. We aren’t perfect but that’s not a bad thing, we all make mistakes and can learn from it but there is such thing as change that starts from within and begins to take action when we recognise. Make a difference. Go out of your way to help others, buy food for the poor one day or now. And the great thing is it isn’t limited to just be a missions trip or a conference or a certain event although they are pretty great and would be eye opening; So many ways to contribute: Make someone’s day, show acts of kindness in your local community. God works in us and we can take root from that.
